Kihachikan

Kihachikan North & Kihachikan South are luxurious, calm and elegant chalets which can be let as a whole or separately. They are located in the heart of the village of Nozawa Onsen, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

The interiors blend Japanese style with western tastes.

The recent refurbishment focussed on working with local tradespeople. The book shelves, benches, tables and several of the beds were handmade across the valley in Togari. The kitchens, chairs and bedroom furniture were designed and hand built in Nagano. All are made from Japanese woods.

Kihachikan North

Kihachikan North is a luxurious and elegant space for extended families.

The bespoke open plan Japanese oak kitchen includes two Miele ovens, a Miele extended induction hob and a Miele Dishwasher. The dining room table was hand made in the neighbouring village of Togari and can comfortably seat 16 people.

The open plan living area also includes sumptuous deep seated sofas and a cast iron pellet stove.

The Bang & Olufsen television and Beolab 5 speakers are superb.

The majority of art work in the kitchen and living area is by the plein air landscape artist Oliver Akers Douglas.

The bedrooms maintain their Japanese style with the addition of western beds and ensuite bathrooms including locally made hinoki shower benches.

Kihachikan South

Kihachikan South is a cosy, upscale family chalet with three bedrooms: a double, twin, and a smaller single room. The open-plan kitchen and living area are bathed in natural light. It features a locally crafted oak kitchen with a Miele oven, induction hob, dishwasher, rice cooker, toaster, coffee machine, and complete cooking utensils. The comfortable sofa seating centres around a cast iron pellet stove and a state-of-the-art Bang & Olufsen TV and sound system with live ski hill feeds and Netflix.

The bedrooms exude a traditional ambiance with shoji windows, wooden beams, authentic wall coverings, and modern amenities like discreet blinds, wooden flooring, and Western-style beds. Japanese oak wardrobes were custom-made in Nagano. The bathrooms offer walk-in showers with locally made hinoki shower benches. The upstairs bathroom boasts a seating area, a large bathtub, and scenic views over Togari and Mount Myoko.

Original Japanese woodblock prints and antique maps of Asia adorn the chalet. Kihachikan South also provides a Miele washing machine and dryer, and the ski, board, and boot room is shared with Kihachikan North, featuring guest snowshoes when available.
