Snow Monkey Tour
If you’re planning a trip to Nozawa Onsen, make sure to include a visit to the famous snow monkeys at Jogokudani monkey park! It’s a highlight for many visitors and definitely worth a visit.
The park is located just above Yudanaka town and below the Shiga Kogen plateau, and it’s about a 50-minute drive from Nozawa Onsen. But don’t worry, there are plenty of transportation options available to get you there, including public transport or tours operated by local providers.
The park is open all year round, so you can visit anytime. However, if you want to see the monkeys in their full snowy glory, the best time to visit is during the winter months. During other times of the year, the monkeys look a bit different and may not spend as much time in the hot springs.
Regardless of the season, the walk into the park is beautiful, and the information centre is definitely worth a visit. So, don’t be disappointed if the monkeys aren’t soaking in the hot springs when you visit. The valley itself is still a beautiful place!
We suggest booking with the local company Nozawa Onsen Kotsu.
